Thanks to its rich research and development background and horticultural roots Skierniewice is considered to be the centre of Polish horticulture. Within the town are located research and development institutions, which in 2011 was in consolidated one Institute of Horticulture. Since 1919 in Skierniewice has existed research and experimental land of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) where you can nowadays find the research station of SGGW's Marian Górski Agriculture and Biology Department.

 High school-leavers in Skierniewice have many opportunities for access to higher educational study in the horticultural departments of either the State Higher Vocational School or the University of Humanities and Economics in Skierniewice.
