Town development is focused on creating good social facilities for its inhabitants and Skierniewice has a well-developed sport and recreational base. Close to the town is the Bolimowski Landscape Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty with a rich historical and cultural heritage, and its numerous educational and recreational trails which are much used by the town's inhabitants.

Moreover, the town is proud to be the host and organiser of several important festivals including the Skierniewice Festival of Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables, an annual event that takes place on the third weekend of September.
